Note

Energy & water conservation proposals are usually reported in the form of estimated costs, estimated savings, and simple payback and typically fall in the payback range of immediate to 5 years.

There are occasionally factors which make a payback of more than 5 years acceptable to a client, such as enhanced capital and aesthetic value of premises, environmental concern, life expectancy of the proposal, public relations, public perception, green marketing, and improved comfort.

UK government funding or European Union funding available subject to the policy of the time may significantly reduce the payback period of some measures, for example the Department of Trade & Industry Clear Skies Renewable Energy Grant Scheme.

In addition to this, Small and Medium Enterprises (SME’s) can currently access interest free loans of £5000 - £50000, for energy efficiency measures, from the Energy Saving Trust.
